Get Your Hands Moving with Tendon Gliding Fun!

Hey there! Ready to give your hands some TLC and get them moving like champs? Tendon gliding exercises are where it's at, and at North Shore Hand Therapy, we're all about making hand workouts fun and effective!

Let's get down to basics: Your fingers are controlled by two main flexor tendons – think of them as the strings that make your fingers dance. But sometimes, whether it's due to an injury or just everyday wear and tear, those tendons can get a bit stuck, causing issues like stiffness and weakness.

But fear not! Tendon gliding exercises are here to save the day – and they're anything but boring. Check it out:

  1. Straight: Start with your fingers stretched out straight like you're reaching for the stars.

  2. Hook: Bend the tips of your fingers down, like you're making a little hook with each one. (figure b)

  3. Table Top: Now, bend your big knuckles down while keeping the rest of your fingers straight, like you're setting your fingers down on a tiny table. (figure d)

  4. Straight Fist: Touch your palm with your fingers, but keep the ends straight – it's like you're giving yourself a little high-five! (figure e)

  5. Full Fist: Finally, make a fist by bending all your finger joints – squeeze tight!

Now, before you dive in, here's a quick reminder: Always ask your hand therapist or surgeon before starting these exercises, especially if you're recovering from an injury or have any existing conditions. Give each exercise a go, aiming for about 10 reps of each. And remember, take it easy and listen to your body – no pain, no gain doesn't apply here!

These exercises are all about getting those tendons gliding smoothly, reducing swelling, and getting your hands back in action. But if you ever have any questions or need a hand (pun intended), just give us a shout at North Shore Hand Therapy. We're here to help you keep those hands happy and healthy!

So go ahead, get those fingers moving, and let's have some tendon gliding fun!
